Agapanthus campanulatus

July 17, 2011

I am delighted that my agapanthus survived the heavy winter. Surprised too since they like to be packed tightly into their containers which meant for weeks on end the roots were exposed to the icy terracotta. But all five pots survived and I rewarded them with a general fertiliser in March and this week they have started to flower. Since they are six years old they’ll benefit from division next spring.  I’ll lift them from the pots and divide up the roots with a clean, sharp knife. Some of the roots can be re-potted in the terracotta and others will be planted in rows on the allotment for projects.
