Cabbage Red

October 24, 2011

I was very pleased to find six huge red cabbages on the lotte last week. They were draped in blue net, the essential protection from the cabbage white, and I hadn’t looked beneath the net for several weeks.  I lifted it to do a bit of weeding and there they were in all their glory and looking gorgeous in the autumn light. I picked this one and cooked three quarters of it as in http://www.thriftyhousehold.co.uk/. I then froze four lots  ready for winter suppers with sausages and jacket potatoes.  Feeling the need for some raw vegetables I made the remainder into Purple Slaw from River Cottage Every Day.  Scrumptious.

I hope you liked it? I finished mine off yesterday with a roast chicken & extra crispy roast potatoes…

It was delicious and we had it with an Italian slow cooked pork in milk recipe on Saturday. By coincidence Mr Slater put the very same recipe in the Observer yesterday. Streets ahead as usual.
